Careers
A career pathway is a broad concept, often understood as a “path through life,”
At James Rennie School, we support students to develop essential life and independent living skills, alongside an understanding of the world of work and the wider world around them.
Each student follows a personalised career pathway to support a successful transition into adulthood, based on their individual strengths and aspirations.
We are committed to ensuring all young people are well-informed about their options. Our strong support network helps students make confident, informed decisions about their future. We work in partnership with staff, parents, teachers, and social workers.
All students access meaningful experiences and opportunities that enable them to achieve their goals and contribute to society.
Our Curriculum Pathways:
Pre-formal curriculum
For pupils working on a pre-formal curriculum, the pathway concentrates on enriching their life experience by developing communication skills, meaningful relationships, social and community life, and actively participating in activities they enjoy and with people they like to spend time with.
Semi-formal curriculum
For pupils working on developing and emerging semi-formal curriculum, the pathway focuses on building key work-related skills to support independent living. This includes developing communication, teamwork, confidence and practical life skills through structured, real life learning experiences.
Formal curriculum
For pupils following the formal curriculum, this pathway increases both the likelihood and opportunity of securing paid employment. This is achieved through a broad range of activities, including classroom-based learning, career coaching, career exploration, work experience, direct engagement with employers, and the development of enterprise and work-related skills, alongside gaining relevant accreditations and qualifications.
These accreditations and qualifications reflect each student’s skills and future aspirations.
