16-19 Bursary Fund

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is a government initiative in the UK designed to provide financial support to young people aged 16 to 19 who are in further education or training. It helps cover costs such as equipment, travel, meals, and other essential items needed for education.

To apply for the 16-19 Bursary Fund, please check your eligibility within the policy and complete an application form which can then be returned to Lucy in the Sixth Form office.

IMPORTANT: It is a requirement that the bursary payments are deposited into a bank account held in the young person’s name. We strongly recommend setting up this account before they turn 18, as the process is generally much easier.

Employment Support Allowance

You can apply for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) if you have a disability or health condition that affects how much you can work.

ESA gives you:

  • money to help with living costs if you’re unable to work
  • support to get back into work if you’re able to

You can apply if you’re employed, self-employed or unemployed.

Personal Independence Payment

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) can help with extra living costs if you have both:

  • a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability

  • difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around because of your condition

Disability Living Allowance

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children may help with the extra costs of looking after a child who:

  • is under 16
  • has difficulties walking or needs much more looking after than a child of the same age who does not have a disability
