EMPLOYERS INFORMATION

We enable employers to come to school to speak to pupils, parents, or carers.

Any employer wishing to access or provide opportunities to our young people as part of our careers programme will be supported by our school staff throughout the process,  it could be helping with a presentation to make it accessible for our young people or support with the initial work placement interview or support young people during the placement.

We put appropriate resources in place to make the experience beneficial for both sides.

Working directly with a school could benefit your company to future-proof their recruitment pipeline by equipping young people with the key skills and qualities employers demand. Moreover, enabling your employees to volunteer with a school is intensely rewarding and can increase employee engagement and job satisfaction.

Please look at the key career events planned for the academic year. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these or would like to discuss other ways of engaging with our school, please contact our careers lead.

Job Day at James Rennie – termly

This is a 15-20 minutes session where you can talk about your job and present a hand on activity that would represent the job or aspect of the job you are doing. You could talk about your career path or highlights of your job. After your presentation, the students will be allowed to ask questions before the form teacher leads the remainder of the lesson. This is a series of activities which students work through in groups. During this, you will be able to help, giving students a chance to speak further with you. This can be arranged ‘face to face’ or online.

Work Day at James Rennie – annual event

This large annual event invites all local employers and providers to showcase their businesses or organisation. We provide you with a stall or space to present an activity with which all our youngsters can engage. We can help develop an idea that could show your business and engage our pupils. We usually hold our event in the autumn term.

Work Experience – ongoing

Students in KS4 and KS5 are offered the chance to complete work experience with an employer. We are very flexible with how we provide work experience and work closely with individual students and employer to find the best solution. The work experience could be, for example, one day, one week or ongoing placement for a longer period of time. Please get in touch if you would be able to offer a placement to a student, our senior teaching assistant Carol Hull responsible for work experience, will be able to provide you with more information: carol.hull@jamesrennieschool.cumbria.sch.uk

Visit to Employers – ongoing

Experiences of workplaces is an important part of a young person’s Careers Education. Please get in touch if you would be able to offer a visit for a group of students.

Careers Week – PLTS week

During the week students in KS4 and KS5 will find out about a wide range of career opportunities through in-school workshops and visits to employers. Please get in touch if you would like to facilitate a workshop or host a workplace visit.

Employer Work Experience Feedback

A few of our leavers recently did their work experience at a local business, ‘The Rebuild Site’ in Carlisle.

Our young adults really enjoyed their time working with Rebuild and certainly got lots of experience!

Here is what Rebuild had to say…

We love having students visiting us at The Rebuild Site on work experience. It’s a great way to show the students what we do, to look at our business from a different perspective and to have a helping hand with some of the tidying and making things. The placements are well organised and it’s rewarding to see how much students love coming to do their work experience with us.
