Special Educational Needs and Admissions
All pupils at James Rennie School have severe or profound learning needs. Most pupils have an additional medical diagnosis.
At James Rennie School we firmly believe the child is more important than their diagnosis. Pupils may share a diagnosis but how we teach and care for each of them, and work with their families, will be different.
All pupils at James Rennie School have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This identifies their diagnosis of severe or profound learning. The County Council is responsible for assessing and issuing EHCPs for pupils who come to James Rennie School.
You can find out more about this process here: Cumbria’s SEND Local Offer if you live in the Cumberland area or here: Westmorland’s SEND Local Offer if you live in Westmorland area.

All admissions and appeals are dealt with by the County Council. After they identify us as a possible school for your child we will be in touch to talk about transition and arrangements for starting school.
