Sun Safety

At James Rennie School and Sixth Form, we are committed to keeping our students safe while they enjoy outdoor learning, play and activities. Sunshine is important for wellbeing, but too much exposure can be harmful. That’s why we promote simple, effective sun safety practices to protect every pupil during warm weather.

We can encourage all pupils to:

Sun Cream at School

To ensure ongoing protection during the day, parents/ carers are asked to either:

  • Send in a named bottle of high-factor sun cream (SPF 50+) with their child. Please clearly label the bottle with your child’s full name.

OR

  • Provide written consent for staff to apply the school’s sun cream (SPF 50+). Consent forms are available from the school office.

How we Support Sun Safety at School

Our staff remind and support students to follow these guidelines throughout the day. We also make use of shaded outdoor areas whenever possible.

How Parents and Carers Can Help

We kindly ask families to provide:

  • A wide-brimmed or legionnaire-style hat for sun protection.
  • Either a labelled bottle of their child’s own sun cream or signed consent for school sun cream to be used.

By taking these steps together, we can ensure that all pupils stay safe, comfortable, and are able to enjoy outdoor activities in the sunshine.

If you have any concerns about sun safety, or would like to discuss your child's individual needs, please contact the School Office on 01228 554280
